Structural transformation remains a key developmental challenge in addressing unemployment, informality and fostering growth and development in African economies. What role do trade unions play in this discourse? Furthermore, what specific policy alternatives can African trade unions advocate to promote decent work within structural transformation strategies, processes, and policies?
This course aims to define an African trade union development strategy, outlining sustained pathways for workers’ and trade union lead role, voice, advocacy, and social dialogue. It emphasizes the inclusion of decent work, international labour standards, Sustainable Development Goal 8 and just transition principles in structural transformation strategies across African economies.
