Sylvain Baffi is a lawyer by education (Master degree in advanced international legal studies). He is currently working in the Social Protection, Governance and Tripartism Department where he is in charge of the cluster on social dialogue and industrial relations. A certified ACAS workplace conflict mediator, Sylvain has been working in more than 40 countries, especially in Europe, Africa and Asia. At the ITCILO, Sylvain ‘s main tasks are related to the promotion of social dialogue at national, sectorial or enterprise level. Work at sectoral level included specific assignments for the promotion of social dialogue and collective bargaining in the textile sector in Haiti and Bangladesh, the mining sector of Democratic Republic of Congo or the Phosphates industry in Morocco. One of the main field of interest is labour dispute prevention and resolution. He is one of the author of the ILO/ITCILO guide “Labour dispute systems: guidelines for improved performance” and has contributed to numerous ILO and ITCILO publications. He has been recently loaned for a few months to the ILO Project Office in Doha as social dialogue and institutional building specialist.
