Key focus areas

  • Roots of a slow movement

In the 1980s, Carlo Petrini and a group of activists demonstrated at the Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy where a McDonald’s was intended to open. This kicked off the opposition to fast food, starting the slow food and wider slow movement.
  • The birth of slow learning

The ITCILO Learning Innovation Programme witnessed the conscious construction of time through one of the few 400-year-old crafts: violin making in Cremona, Italy. This starts to shift the narrative around what slow learning means.
  • Mindful vs. Mind Full

Over 1,900 global artists contributed to the Mindful vs. Mind Full Posterheroes competition to create visualizations of slow learning to serve as communication tools for exhibits, calendars, and publications.
  • The slow learning book

Over 20 slow learning advocates came together to write the slow learning bill of rights, contribute to a reflective essay, and build the slow tools repository all featured in the publication, “Slow learning: A path to a meaningful and mindful future of learning”.
Key takeaway
