Introduction to the course
The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly disrupted the educational system, underscoring the critical need for resilience through technology. Initial transformations revolved around the shift from traditional in-person training to the widespread adoption of distance learning. This adaptation not only facilitated continuity but also unlocked new potentials, such as fostering inclusion, broadening access, enhancing processes, and modernising Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres. These changes catalysed greater student engagement and improved the alignment of training with the future of work.
In addition to these advancements, the digitalisation of the TVET system is now fundamentally reshaping how training is delivered. This shift from a traditional model aims to achieve several objectives: increasing accessibility, promoting inclusion, and, crucially, aligning competencies with industry needs. By leveraging technology to simulate real-world scenarios in training environments, the system seeks to ensure that learners are better equipped to meet the demands of an ever-evolving job market.
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) marks a new revolution in the digitalisation era. Its accessibility, diversity, and capabilities have profound implications for the TVET system, particularly in training, while also introducing new risks and necessitating emerging regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the proliferation of digitalisation and AI has introduced disparities, as not all systems and learners can equally benefit from these advancements. This course aims to explore low- and no-cost solutions offered by widely accessible online tools, empowering TVET centres to bridge these gaps effectively.
While previous editions of this course focused on the transformation from in-person to blended learning, today's challenges are more complex with the advent and proliferation of AI. TVET centres will need to rethink their economic models, understand the e-learning market, and adapt their offerings to meet competency demands. Additionally, as ongoing innovation constantly reshapes these demands, TVET centres must develop unprecedented adaptability. It is essential to highlight that risks are also multiplied by the vast and unrestricted access to technology. This necessitates a crucial transversal skill for TVET centre managers and educators, which will be addressed in this course.
Finally, technology, more than ever, places humans at the centre of the issue. In the context of TVET, a learner-centred approach is fundamental to the new generation of pedagogy.

The target audiences for this training pathway are primarily, but not exclusively, professionals whose work relates to skills development and TVET systems, or who have experience in this field, in roles such as:
- Decision makers in the TVET sector, such as ministers' staff and board members of TVET centers
- Pedagogical staff of the TVET trainers' training centers
- Programme instructional designers, instructional and management staff of national training authorities
- TVET teachers and trainers, in-company trainers and mentors; managers of vocational training centers
- Experts and technical staff from CSOs, NGOs, and other civil society actors working in TVET

This course aims to provide the fundamental elements of digital transformation within the TVET system and to equip participants not only to initiate such changes but also to maintain their relevance in a constantly evolving technological landscape. To effectively navigate the digitalisation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems, several key strategies and considerations must be addressed. These strategies encompass ensuring that TVET institutions can keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, guaranteeing quality training, and redefining the roles of various stakeholders involved in the TVET ecosystem. The training will cover:
- Overview and current state of digitalisation, including the role of AI within technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems.
- Opportunities and challenges presented by AI in education.
- Decomposition of skills repositories and the digitalisation of curricula, alongside the transformative changes introduced by AI.
- Emerging frameworks on AI in education, with a focus on ethical considerations and responsible implementation.
- Methodologies and multimodal pedagogical approaches centred on the learner.
- Key technological solutions for the digitalisation of TVET, including AI, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).
- The growing market of EdTech, encompassing advanced technological solutions and innovations for education and training.

Certificate
Participants who successfully complete at least 80% of the activities, including all compulsory ones, and attend the face-to-face session will be awarded a certificate of participation.
Languages
Participants will be required to have a good knowledge of oral and written English as training materials will be available on the e-platform in English.

About fellowships
The available scholarships cover up to 50% of tuition fees; airfare and visa expenses are not included.
