Introduction to the course
By examining the procedures and substance of the international labour standards system, the course aims to strengthen capacity to follow standards-related procedures, including reporting obligations under the ILO Constitution. The course is part of the first online International Labour Standards Academy for Africa, an event which brings together highly-specialized courses on ILS and gathers participants from various professional backgrounds during its virtual master classes, in order to explore the key role of ILS in the COVID-19 social and economic recovery and, more generally, in the UN Sustainable Development Framework.

Government officials, representatives of employers' and workers' organizations responsible for issues relating to international labour standards.

- ILS procedures, from elaboration and adoption to supervision on application.
- Substance of a selection of ILS.
- NORMLEX database, Managing ILS Reporting Website and other ILS resources on the Net.
- The Standard Review Mechanism (SRM).
- International Labour Conference agenda item IV (standard-setting, first discussion), 2022: A framework for quality apprenticeships.
What will I gain from the course?
- Capacity to participate actively in the procedures of standard setting, submission, ratification, regular and special supervision in the fields covered by the ILO’s mandate.
- Capability to follow actively future discussion at the International Labour Conference on the adoption and application of ILS.
