Methodology

The Master in OSH uses a comprehensive, interactive approach to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge. The programme integrates insights from various disciplines like medicine, engineering, and social sciences for a holistic understanding of OSH issues.

Blended learning combines online modules with a residential phase in Turin, offering flexibility and immersive experiences. Real-world applications include study visits to companies and hands-on training in risk assessment and safety management.

Assessment

The Master in OSH programme uses various methods to evaluate participants’ comprehension, skills, and progress:

Written exams assess understanding of key concepts and principles. Practical assignments, including case studies, risk assessments, and safety audits, apply knowledge to real-world scenarios. Individual or group projects focus on specific OSH challenges, involving research and solution development.

Oral presentations of projects or findings demonstrate communication skills. Continuous assessment through quizzes, discussions, and workshop participation tracks ongoing progress. The programme culminates in a final project or dissertation addressing a significant OSH issue, showcasing the ability to apply learned concepts to real-world challenges.

Duration, language and venue

The Master in Occupational Safety and Health programme is designed to be completed within one year and consists of three main phases: an online preparatory phase, an on-campus residential phase, and an applied project and research phase.

The programme is conducted primarily in English, requiring proficiency for successful participation.

The preparatory phase is conducted online, the residential phase takes place on the campus of the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO) in Turin, Italy, and the applied project and research phase is typically hybrid, combining remote work with online support from faculty members.

  • Location: hybrid
  • Focus: Practical projects and research activities.  
  • Activities: Capstone project development, independent or guided research, with online support and mentorship from faculty. 
  • Duration: 1 month  
  • Focus: Final assessment of knowledge and skills.  
  • Activities: Written and practical exams, oral defense of the capstone project, and certification upon successful completion.
