The project Shurokkha is funded by the Laudes Foundation with the objective to build a political consensus for the adoption of an Employment Injury Insurance (EII) in Bangladesh. The project is implemented by the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The project Shurokkha (the Bangla word for “protection”) not only fosters grassroot support and creates awareness regarding the benefits of an EII among workers, the Government and the employers, but it also strengthens the capacity of the civil society as well as media representatives for an effective agenda-setting.
The ITCILO is collaborating with the Shurokkha project in the organization, delivery and evaluation of training activities as well as in the development of resources for the mentioned purposes.
Shurokkha works hand in hand with local stakeholders to pilot an approach based on three key components:
The Awareness Raising component aims to increase visibility on the benefits of an EII as one of the social protection schemes through extensive media coverage as well as a proactively initiated political debate with civil society organizations.,
A toolkit has been developed for this purpose to provide partners organizations with background information, resources and guidelines.
The ILO’s website, this toolkit and file provides background information and resources about the benefits of an EII in Bangladesh as well as more details about the initiative.
