  • The power of personal stories

Today’s online readers want sensory experiences with lots of visuals. But don’t be discouraged: Creative communication takes many forms. It’s not always complicated or created by a 10-person team. In this learning stream, we study examples of online content from the United Nations, National Geographic, New York Times, and other trailblazing storytellers.

  • Photo essays
  • Visual stories
  • Interactive narratives
  • First-person stories
  • Video documentaries

Social media is the place to tell stories, raise awareness, and attract users. If you want to learn how to optimize your posts for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram, this is the learning stream for you. You’ll get a guide to writing for social media, templates for social media posts, and a sample editorial calendar for your next social media campaign.

  • Platform subcultures
  • Calls to action
  • Testimonials and quotes
  • Numbers and statistics
  • Tips and tricks

From managing projects to creating graphics, digital tools can improve your workflow, messages, and products. But, the field is crowded. In this learning stream, we explain which tools are worth downloading, and why.

  • Google Analytics
  • InVision

  • Figma
  • Creative Commons
  • Jira
  • Medium

Some people dread them, others endure them, but few excel at them. In this learning stream, you’ll learn how to make more enjoyable and effective presentations. The best communicators can convey their ideas in a multitude of ways, and public speaking is a valuable skill.

  • First impression
  • Elevator pitch
  • Powerpoint and visual aids
  • Audience engagement
  • Questions and answers

As the world moves online, events follow suit. How can you transform your formerly in-person event into a useful online experience? In this learning stream, we provide a step-by-step guide to creating a complete event communication plan, including a timeline.

  • Pre-event promotion
  • Invitation
  • Registration
  • Confirmation
  • Reminders
  • Post-event communication

Digital reports are exciting, but print is not dead. In fact, with a little imagination, both mediums have potential. In this learning stream, you’ll learn how well-written and smartly designed materials can attract attention from and for donors.

What is design thinking?

The ITCILO’s Design Kit is a physical tool that helps teams take a human-centered approach to problem solving. Empathy and curiosity are the essence of the Design Kit—and of design thinking. Teams mix and match methods, come up with out-of-the-box ideas, and reach innovative solutions through hands-on collaboration.

In this course, in-house experts guide participants through a full design thinking workshop.
