The United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) provides the foundation for sustainable and transformative progress on disability inclusion, across both programmes and operations, and through all pillars of the work of the United Nations: peace and security, human rights, and development. 'I want the United Nations to lead by example and invite you to join me in moving decisively to achieve the goals of the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy' United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres Through the UNDIS country team and entity focal point capacity-building programme, participants will explore how to successfully promote disability inclusion through the UNDIS framework. The course includes live virtual sessions with international experts and self-guided online modules, covering strategies and tools for identifying and addressing obstacles to achieving disability inclusion in their work context. The programme has been collaboratively designed by the ITCILO, the ILO-Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch, and the Disability Inclusion Team in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.

Perfil dos participantes

This interactive course is designed for UN staff members who have been designated as UNDIS focal points, as well as colleagues directly working on UNDIS implementation in their organizations (entity and country team level).

What topics does this course cover?

In this learning journey, you will be taken through five modules. Main topics include:

  • Key concepts, definitions and approaches to disability inclusion;
  • International standards and frameworks and how they can be used to promote disability inclusion efforts;
  • UNDIS:  history, purpose, structure and practical applications;
  • An overview of actions, tools and partnerships to successfully promote disability inclusion;
What will you be able to do?

In particular, this course will equip you with the tools to:

  • Recognise the main concepts and ways of conceptualizing the human rights-based approach to disability and disability inclusion;
  • Understand how the international human rights framework can help promote UNDIS;
  • Familiarize yourself with strategies and good practices;
  • Locate yourself in the roadmap for change and identify entry points towards application of UNDIS in your own context;
  • Conceive an individual and concrete action plan aimed at strengthening disability inclusion in your organization.
